DAY 12: Stone Counter Tops!
Day 12 of 365 Days of a Happy Home!
Gone are the days of laminate countertops. Today’s homeowners and designers are overwhelmingly choosing natural stone countertops and quartz surfaces for kitchens and bathrooms that feel elevated, durable, and timeless. Personally, I will always lean toward real natural stone. But the big question remains: which stone countertop is right for your space?
We are happy to help you select the perfect natural stone or quartz surface for your home!
Are you drawn to an exotic quartzite slab with dramatic movement, or do you prefer a classic, traditional natural stone that will age gracefully? The best choice is the one that aligns with your lifestyle, your cabinetry, and the overall design direction of your home because you will live with this surface every single day. This beauty is Audacia Quartzite. Resistant to chipping, staining, and scratches, quartzite can also withstand heat. This is a popular stone for the kitchen.
One quartzite I consistently recommend is Fantasy Blue quartzite, a stunning natural stone known for its layered blue-gray veining and soft organic movement.
When I evaluate a slab, I always bring the full bathroom or kitchen material palette with me. Here, you can see how the quartzite works alongside the vanity finish, the main floor tile, and the shower floor tile. Viewing materials together is the key to achieving a cohesive, designer-level result.
When I look at a slab, I like to bring along the other aspects that will be in the room. Here you can see I brought the vanity color, the floor tile and the shower floor tile.
I am also a longtime fan of soapstone countertops, especially for homeowners who love a rich, lived-in look. Soapstone is naturally beautiful and develops character over time, but it does require some routine care. Applying butcher’s wax or mineral oil once a month during the first year helps maintain that deep charcoal tone and allows the natural veining to really pop. After the initial conditioning period, maintenance becomes much easier.
This stone is called Fantasy Brown and works with just about any cabinet color.
Another incredibly versatile option is Fantasy Brown natural stone, which works beautifully with a wide range of cabinet colors, from warm wood vanities to painted cabinetry. Its soft taupe, cream, and gray movement makes it one of the most flexible countertop choices for both modern and traditional homes.
Choosing the right stone countertop for your kitchen or bathroom remodel is all about balancing beauty, durability, maintenance, and how the material lives in your space every day.
